Gnomes are small, insect-like humanoids. They often create sand golems around themselves to more easily interact with other races.

History

Another early race, sort of insectoid in look. Gnomes are similar to dryads in ability, in relation to the earth. They resided within the earth, avoiding any of the perils of the early worlds. They came under contact with the dwarves, and assisted them early on. They have no real relation with any other races, but as individuals they are free to explore as they desire.

Gnomes don't have much need to socialize, but when they do they often become immersed in the culture they find. This of course can go both ways.

Gnomes quickly took to the ground like fishmen to water or Dryad’s to plant life. Their small insect like bodies were incredibly adept at swimming through the sand in combination of their own fields and anatomy. Sadly, they were also very adept at being eaten by Sand worms/wyrms, who thought they were the best tasting things since smaller sand worms/wyrms. As the races wore on, Gnomes stuck to their desert home.

Soon, a human civilization arose in the desert, studying the habits of the Gnomes. Their own cities were built to fend off the attacks of the sand w.’s and the Gnomes peacefully coexisted with them. (especially since the ruins kept the worms away) and everyone won!

Unfortunately, after the data was sent to other human settlements, Vulture Wasp Horrorterrors flooded into the human city, killing damn near everything. The few that survived fled the desert as fast as they could. The sandworm defenses didn’t drop at all, so the Gnomes continued to live under the city, as content as they could be.

Culture

They don’t deal much with other races and cultures, preferring to stay underneath the sand and live among themselves in peace. Trading is limited to basically nothing, because I don’t see that gnomes have anything people want and vice/versa? If they like shiny stones, this is probably open to change.

Gnome culture is basically super communism, with various tribal ‘bands’ that live in various places under the city. In each band of families, the gnomes share everything: Food, what little wealth they have, and each other. They’re basically really adorable and even though the various bands sometimes feud over territory, it is essentially settled by gnome poetry contests, which come down to busting phat beats via vibration. Some gnomes venture out into the world, creating sand golems to suit their purposes. These quickly pick up a sign language so they communicate and watch other cultures. These aren’t considered pariahs among their race, and are generally well-received when they come back and give news of the outside world, and spread knowledge and magic among the other gnomes.

Fashion

They are naked insect people. Their golems are naked too.
