Giants are wormlike creatures with spines covering their body. However, they are rarely directly seen, as Giants pull any loose matter around them to form a shell. As they grow older, their body loses its physical definition and they rely on their shell for survival.
History
An elder race who are serpentine in form. The race is particularly unique in the sense they are able to pull loose matter around them to form and shape a shell. The giants are a spiritual race and very secluded from the other races.
Overall, the giants are a very passive race. They might occasionally feel called to help others, though.
Culture
Giants, from an outsider’s point of view, are among the most complicated sort of races. They tend to only travel when young, and then become horrific sedentary monsters when old. In addition to this, they have four genders, a solitary nature, and an incredibly low number, compared to some of the other races. Gender is decided by a Giant as it reaches the equivalent of adolescence.
Giants can discover another giant’s gender just by looking at it. Otherwise, this could lead to various forms of confusion (and incredibly awkward foursomes that would lead to nowhere). The four genders of Giants (and their typical role) are:
Rhine-Typically associated with semi-aquatic environments. Fens, underwater lakes, etc. Scholars have classified them as ‘female’ but of course, to Giants, this is wrong. The stereotypes for Rhine’s are being laid back, calm, mediators. They typically don’t indulge in the giant’s ‘out-giving’ games, and as such are hard to reach by normal creatures.
Yoran-What most people think of when the giants are mentioned: Making homes in mountains and hills and the like. Stoic, reliable, and among the more arrogant of the giants. They continue the gift giving, because it amuses them to no end when they put their neighbors and old clutchmates into debt. They also abhor being in debt, but will keep it out of their own sense of duty.
Shera-The Shera are the most introverted of the types of giants, but this is due to them being very spiritual. While the Rhine are politicians to an extent, Shera are the clergy. If a young giant needs guidance on these matters, he is advised to find the icy dwellings of a Shera, where they will proceed to be old and boring and talk his ear holes off.
Neran: Typically the most violent of the giant species while young, but cools off when they get old, quickly becoming the laziest of the genders/castes. They secretly delight in trying to one-up any of their old friends, be they giant or humanoid. In doing so, they tend to get very obnoxious with ‘anything you can do I can do better’ and the like.
The Giant’s potlatch like culture is seldom understood by non-giants. In reality, it’s stupidly simple. Giants will give each other useless seeming gifts as a show of their generosity and will expect something in return of equal or greater value. It’s very simple. Giants will often use hapless adventurers in their gift giving exercises and some parties can make a profit, asking for other gifts the giant has gotten, and has no need for.
Then sometimes it’s just like exchanging fruitcakes between the two crazy neighbors on opposite sides of the street.
Fashion
Giants, especially older ones, rarely indulge in fashion, instead using their shell to express what they desire.
